Waymo in San Francisco: A Rider’s Guide

Plan a Bay Area ride with booking steps, pickup checks, airport questions and links to current service coverage.

Booking: Waymo app. Waymo’s Bay Area page describes service from the Sunset to San Jose and directs riders to the Waymo app. Check both addresses in the app; this is not a promise of service to every Bay Area destination.

Plan around your actual Bay Area trip

  • Enter the precise destination, especially for trips outside San Francisco. A regional service description does not guarantee a particular cross-city journey.
  • Compare the suggested pickup with your building entrance. Leave time for a walk to the assigned stopping point, particularly when carrying luggage or using mobility aids.
  • For an SFO or other airport trip, enter the terminal and confirm that airport pickup or dropoff is offered. Follow the airport-specific instructions shown by the app.

Check coverage before committing to a trip

Use the operator’s current coverage information, then confirm your pickup and destination in the booking app. The app is the final check for the trip you want to take; a map or city guide is not a live availability guarantee.

Compare the trip, not just the fare

Record the fare, wait and pickup walk at the same time you check another service. For a return journey, check the reverse trip separately. Leave extra time for a fixed appointment or a departure you cannot miss.

Before your first ride

  1. Check passenger capacity, luggage, child-seat and accessibility requirements with the operator.
  2. Identify the assigned vehicle using the app and follow its boarding instructions.
  3. Locate in-app support before departing. Use the operator’s instructions if you need help.
