Lucid DreamDrive: Hands-Free Features & Requirements

Compare Air’s DreamDrive Pro with Gravity’s DreamDrive 2 Pro, including hands-free features, equipment and software requirements.

At a glance

Lucid’s hands-free capability belongs to specific DreamDrive Pro packages. The Air and Gravity use different generations, so the word “DreamDrive” alone does not tell you whether a car can provide hands-free assistance.

Air and Gravity use different packages

Lucid’s Air documentation identifies Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Lane Change Assist in DreamDrive Pro. For Gravity, the corresponding package is DreamDrive 2 Pro. Lower packages do not establish hands-free capability.

What hands-free assistance can do

Hands-Free Drive Assist supports steering, lane centering and following-distance control when available. The driver must remain attentive and ready to take control. Lucid says the vehicle falls back to hands-on Drive Assist when hands-free features are unavailable.

Lane-change behavior depends on the feature and software. Lucid documents driver-signaled Hands-Free Lane Change Assist; its Gravity software release also describes an automatic passing capability. Check the applicable manual before assuming the same lane-change behavior across both vehicles.

Hardware, software and a purchase quote

Ask for the package name on the vehicle’s build sheet and the installed software version. Lucid has released these capabilities through software updates, but a software announcement does not mean that every car has the necessary Pro hardware.

Compare the complete equipped vehicle price. The starting MSRP of an Air or Gravity does not establish the cost of a hands-free configuration. Have Lucid identify the package price, any included offers and applicable future service terms in the actual quote.

  • Confirm the exact Pro package rather than a generic “driver assistance” listing.
  • For a used vehicle, verify its original equipment and present feature availability.
  • Request a demonstration of the hands-free indication and the switch back to hands-on assistance.

Check your routes before choosing

Use the vehicle’s compatible-road indications and the current manual for the features you intend to use. A demonstration on a divided highway does not establish operation on local roads or at intersections.

When comparing Lucid with another system, use the same trip and buying assumptions: installed equipment, active software, conditions where assistance works, and how often you must resume steering.

Common questions

Does every Lucid with DreamDrive support hands-free driving?

No. Air requires the appropriate DreamDrive Pro configuration, while Gravity uses DreamDrive 2 Pro. Installed software also matters.

Does lidar or future-capable hardware make the car driverless?

No. Hardware specifications do not override the responsibilities and limits of the released feature. These systems require an attentive driver.
